A few months back we noticed dung beetles in our composting toilets!
Dung beetles work very hard to either burrow in, consume, or otherwise deal with poop. The photo above was taken on the road to the Bosque, where the beetles are working to collect cow dung for either food or brooding.
We’re happy to have the beetles living in our toilets. They’ll quicken the process of composting the humanure. And, before you say ‘ewwww‘ – dung beetles are really really neat insects. Click here to read about them on wikipedia.
