Facilities Activities Testimonials

Since 2004, residents and volunteers have been actively building and planting to provide an infrastructure base for the culture here to thrive. We have built cabanas, improved our guesthouse, added campsites and created kilometers of trails, planted tens of thousands of seeds, and much more. We continue to improve the facilities we can provide our guests, volunteers, residents, and future residents.

Current facilities include:

Arcoiris Casita Guesthouse
The Arcoiris Casita is used by visitors for relaxing and showering. There is a fireplace to warm up by in the cold mornings and evenings, an indoor and outdoor stove to make tea or coffee, and a large outdoor terraza with forest views and patio seating. The Casita also houses one of our libraries and is a favorite comfy spot to curl up with a good book.

The Casita kitchen is always equipped with fresh fruit for snacking between meals.

The walls of the Casita are muraled by visiting artists, giving it the appearance of a tattooed building.

Sauna
Our first sauna was completed in September 2008. It is built out of a mixture of wood and cob, a formed, adobe-like material. The earth roof grows green during the rainy season.

Seating up to 12 people, the sauna provides us with a healthy way to reduce our water use. Before taking showers we take a sauna which allows our bodies to sweat out dirt and toxins. Showers consist of a quick wash and rinse. Using the sauna gets us cleaner with less water use. There are a number of other health benefits to saunas which you can read about here.

Our sauna is fired up one or two times a week, depending on demand. Occasionally Centro Jobutsu hosts temazcals (traditional Mayan saunas) in the morning, followed by regular sauna.

Kaizen Library
The Kaizen Library is a great collection of educational books pertaining to permaculture, ecological living, nutrition, spirituality, art, and more. We are really proud of our book collection and are always appreciative of donations that keep the collection growing. The Kaizen library is open for abour 4-6 hours every day. We ask that the books stay inside the building so that we can keep them in good condition. These books are not available for check out from short-term guests.

Casita Library
The Casita has its very own library filled with both fiction and educational books. This library is also high-quality. Guests are welcome to enjoy the books; we just ask that care is taken to keep the books out of the rain or humidity, and that books are returned to their proper location. Guests check out books from the Casita library on the honor system. We welcome donations and can occasionally trade, but please remember that books are very expensive in Mexico. Donations are appreciated.

Cabañas
Bosque Village has five cabañas available for guests. They are typically shared, dorm-style, among guests; private cabaña space is usually available upon advanced request. Couples sharing a bed always have their own private floor. The cabañas are fitted with comfy beds and bedding, and they are all located next to a composting toilet. They are not insulated and can get chilly at night.

Huts
We have one hut, Beltane, that has been a cozy warm place to stay for lots of Bosque guests. Our most popular location, Beltane is constructed out of cob – a mixture of dirt, straw, and sawdust. The walls are thick and provide great insulation. The one-room hut has a small fireplace, desk, and double bed. We are constructing a second hut that should be ready for guests shortly!
