Arriving prepared is important, as the Bosque Village is not within walking distance to any large stores.
Recommendations:
- The number one item people wish they had brought is warm clothing. Though even winter days are sunny, it gets cold here at night year round, and the cabanas are not insulated.
- Travel lightly. Do not bring hair dryers, as you will not be able to plug them in without running a generator. If you are unable to lift your own bag you may want to consider leaving some items at home.
- Dressing in layers is important. Mornings are chilly, afternoons sunny and warm.
- If you do not know Spanish, please bring a phrase book
or Spanish-English dictionary. This will be of great help if you wish to take field trips around the lake.
- We are remote and many products are unavailable in this rural area. Bring any specialized items you need.
Packing List:
- Warm clothing and a warm hat
- Please refer to the climate page. If you are planning to visit during the rainy season, bring a rain coat. Bring a nice warm jacket.
- If you plan to paint or work on messy projects, bring appropriate clothing you don't mind getting dirty. People interested in trying natural building should bring appropriate building clothes and shoes.
- We do not have a dress code, but encourage our visitors and volunteers to dress conservatively in the small villages nearby.
- If you need a swimsuit to use the sauna, bring one.
- Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, shaving
equipment, tampons, chap stick, etc. Bring a washcloth and a towel
if you plan to shower. The only toiletries the Bosque provides is
toilet paper.
- Medication you may want: ibuprofen, aspirin, anti-allergy, etc. Small first aid kit.
- Sun protection. Our high altitude increases risk of sunburn.
- Sunglasses
- A watch or travel clock
- Walking shoes or nice sandals (Chacos or Tevas).
- Your camera (with battery charger!).
- Earth friendly laundry detergent if you wish to hand wash your clothes.
There are no washing machines in the Bosque (although there is a hand washing station available). Long-term visitors
have the option of paying for laundry to be done in town. You drop it off one day and pick it up the next.
- LED head-lamp and batteries. If you do not have a light, you will not be able to get to your cabana or tent at night.
- Water-bottle. We provide drinking water at many locations, but you'll need a water bottle to fill.
- We have a clothing optional sauna. Bring a towel to sit on. Optional: swimming suit to wear.
- Optional - Caffeine. You are welcome to use our outdoor stoves to make coffee in the morning, but we don't provide it.
Additional Items for Eco-Experience visitors :
- A watch
- Sturdy work shoes - tennis shoes work fine during the dry season. If you are here June - September, your shoes should be water proof.
- Work clothes you don't mind getting dirty
And, if you've got some extra room in your bag:
Some supplies are hard to find in this area of Mexico. If you want, we'd love any of the following items. Please save your receipt if you would like to be reimbursed!- Organic broccoli or alfalfa seeds for sprouting. Packaged (for sprouting) is best, since seeds can cause trouble with customs.
- Bragg liquid aminos - please no more than $5 (USD) for 16oz, $8 (USD) for 32 oz.
